What led you to become an educator, and what do you love most about teaching?
I have always loved children. There’s nothing like the moment when their eyes light up—when something clicks and they finally understand what you’ve been trying to share. Watching that spark of recognition and joy is one of my greatest blessings in the classroom.
How does your faith influence your work in the classroom and with students?
My faith is the foundation of everything I do. I view teaching as a calling, not just a profession. I pray over my students, my lessons, and my role daily, and I trust that God is preparing the way—even in small moments. I strive to model Christ-like love, patience, and joy, and I try to create a classroom environment where His presence is felt and His truth is shared.
What is something unique about the way you teach or the way you connect with students?
I try to always be present, to truly listen, and to show each student respect. I make eye contact when I speak with them so they know I hear them and they matter. I believe God softens hearts and opens ears when we show care and dignity in small ways, and that’s how I try to connect—with honesty and warmth.
What are your favorite things to learn, explore, or talk about with students?
I love exploring the relationships in the Bible—helping students get to know the disciples, understand their families, their struggles, their victories. Making those figures come alive is one of my favorite things. Seeing students connect with the Word personally and spiritually brings me great joy. And of course, the smiles and hugs each day are a gift!
When you're not at school, how do you like to spend your time?
I enjoy spending time with my grandkids—taking them to their activities, playing games, and simply being together. I also love reading, playing and listening to music of all kinds, gardening, and caring for our chickens and our three furry children. Life is full and joyful!
What’s one hope or prayer you have for your students this year?
I pray that each of my students truly receives and acknowledges what God can do in their lives. I want them to feel safe, seen, and nurtured. I hope they wake up every morning excited to come to school. More than anything, I want the fruits of the Spirit to take root in their hearts—that they would write them there and carry them wherever they go. I pray they grow bold in faith and learn to share their hearts, becoming true fishers of men. Amen.
